Sola Media is positioning 'Felix the Brave' as a passion project with heart—emphasizing its richly imagined miniature world designed to captivate families worldwide. The company highlights veteran talent like Timo Berg and Ali Samadi Ahadi, framing this as premium family entertainment in the tradition of 'A Bug's Life.'
Insiders note Sola Media is making a calculated bet on animation at Cannes—a market where family films with proven creative teams often command strong pre-sale interest. The Q3 2027 delivery timeline gives buyers plenty of runway, and having Berg (Super Mario Bros., Despicable Me 3) attached adds studio-polished credibility to what could otherwise get lost in the animated noise.
Sola Media boards 'Felix the Brave' as sales agent with teaser debuting at Cannes Film Market on May 10, 2026. Directed by Ali Samadi Ahadi (known for 'Moonbound') with animation director Timo Berg—whose credits include 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' 'Despicable Me 3,' 'The Grinch,' and 'Sing.' Delivery is scheduled for Q3 2027, followed by German theatrical release through Little Dream Pictures.
With serious talent behind it and a Cannes platform to make noise, 'Felix the Brave' has the pedigree—but whether a flea protagonist can compete with established IP remains the real question.
Sola Media is making its Cannes move with "Felix the Brave," an animated feature following one tiny hero with enormous aspirations. The company has officially boarded as sales agent for the project, which will debut an exclusive teaser during this year's Cannes Film Market—a prime stage for hungry buyers scanning the market for their next acquisition. The film centers on Felix, a flea raised by a family of rhinoceros beetles who has no idea he's different—until a feared stag beetle army threatens his village and forces him into action.
Felix embarks on a dangerous quest to find the mythical Beetle Queen, said to bring peace to his troubled home. He'll have company: Missy, a sharp-tongued dung beetle, and Toni, a quirky bombardier beetle veteran, round out the trio as they quarrel, bond, and venture through the wild unknown together. Behind the animation is a stacked creative team that Sola Media is clearly counting on to move product.
Animation director Timo Berg brings serious studio heat—his credits include "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Despicable Me 3," "The Grinch," "Sing," and "Pets." Character designer Peter Oedekoven, known for work on "Stitch Head" and "Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog," rounds out a production designed to look polished on screen. Directed by Ali Samadi Ahadi, whose previous animated adventure "Moonbound" established his credentials in the family space, the project has the makings of something that could travel.
The production is handled by Little Dream Entertainment and Amour Fou alongside animation studio Red Parrot Studios, with German theatrical distribution through Little Dream Pictures. Delivery is targeted for Q3 2027—giving international buyers a clear timeline to plan around. Solveig Langeland, managing director of Sola Media, emphasized the film's family appeal in a statement: "The film invites children and families into a richly imagined miniature world of beetles, fleas and wild forest creatures—in the tradition of the beloved animated classic 'A Bug's Life.'" Samadi Ahadi and Frank Geiger from Little Dream Entertainment called it a true passion project.
"While making it, our team was falling in love with each of our adorable characters, giving us great hope that our valued audiences, children and their families all around the world will feel the same," they said. Whether Cannes buyers share that enthusiasm remains to be seen—but with this kind of talent attached, "Felix the Brave" won't lack for attention when the teaser hits the market.
